Children from all over the city of Savannah gathered Tuesday morning in Daffin Park for the annual Summer Playground Olympics.
The field day allowed students participating in the 28 summer supervised playgrounds offered by the city in an effort to stay fit.
The event included 16 activities including a hula race, tug-of-war and jumping rope.
"Fitness is one of our top priorities, because obviously we continue to read the reports on obesity on our children. We want to continue to show and encourage kids to be more fit and to exercise," said Barry Baker, Savannah Parks and Recreation director.
In conjunction to the playground Olympics, Daffin Park will host the city swim meet this Friday. Swim teams from the nine public pools in Savannah will be competing.
