BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

Cigar bars in Bluffton will now be allowed to sell beer and wine to customers. Town council voted Tuesday to change the ordinance that allows smoking in cigar bars to also allow drinking.

"They have a very good ordinance and when you start altering ordinances and start changing them, that's a slippery slope because then another business may come along and want to do the same thing," said Dianna Wilson, SC African American Tobacco Network.

"It puts beer and wine on the shelves basically. People smoke there anyway. People go there to buy tobacco products. There is no work force to deal with. That's what those tobacco laws were generally there for," said Ted Huffman, Bluffton Town Council.

Only cigars will be allowed to be smoked, not cigarettes. The proposal was made on behalf of Peaceful Henry's Cigar and Tobacco in Bluffton. Hilton Head Island has a similar law.
