CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

A Chatham County grand jury has indicted a man on felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault and several other charges in connection with the 2012 death of an Isle of Hope firefighter/EMS.

Brandon Mackey, 26, was indicted in connection with June 25, 2012, death of Wesley Franklin, 21, during an armed robbery outside the Deb's Pub & Grub.

Mackey is charged with felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, two counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and two counts of theft by taking.

At the preliminary hearing last month, a detective testified that Mackey confessed to killing Franklin in an attempted robbery at Deb's Pub and Grub.

The detective testified they found the magazine from the gun used to kill Franklin at his home and that Mackey was even wearing the jacket seen in a security video when he was arrested in Texas almost a year after the crime.

"We don't know the evidence until we get to the courtroom. A million times you'll think it's the strongest case you have, and there are motions, and there are issues. I hope it is a strong case. I think that the cops have worked very hard and have been very diligent, but I'm not going to count my chickens before they hatch. That would be very wrong of me to do," Heap said.
