Col. Dianne Pannes becomes the first female DENTAC commander at Fort Stewart.
HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -
Folks at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield have a new reason to smile.
Fort Stewart Dental Activity, also known as DENTAC, has a new leader. In a ceremony Wednesday at Marne Garden, Col. Dianne Pannes assumed command from Col. Mark McDonald - becoming the first female DENTAC commander at Fort Stewart.
Her mission is to oversee the dental care of more than 23,000 soldiers at both Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.
"My husband and I, we are incredibly impressed by this installation. It's one of the nicest instillations we have ever been on and the people have never been more supportive or friendly, so we are happy to be in Georgia. The acclamation to heat is going to take a little while, but we're drinking water and i think we're going to love it," Pannes said.
A separate retirement ceremony was held Wednesday for McDonald. He served more than 30 years and the last two years were with DENTAC.
