Resident's forced to use boats to access homes

Posted: Updated:

The Effingham County Emergency Management Agency is warning people who live along the Ogeechee and Savannah rivers to stay away from waterways.

The Ogeechee River is as high as it's been in a decade, and it's affecting a lot of people nearby, like those along Middle Landing Road between Georgia 204 and the Ogeechee.

The only way for Robbie Broome to get to his home on Middle Landing Road is by using his neighbor's boat.

"This is the worst I've seen in the 4 years," says Broome.

For the last two days, Broome and his aunt say the water has reached at least 4 feet, and they've been living with out running water.

"I can't use my well or my septic tank. I have no water and can't give the animals water," says Broome.

Due to a health condition and her pets, Robbie's aunt, Lori Broome, says the situation at their home is unlivable.

"You can't shower. You can't use the restroom. You can't wash a dish. You can't even give the cats water."

On Wednesday, she packed up the necessities, like clothes, medication and dog food, and has evacuated her home.

"You wouldn't want to live there, believe me," said Broome.
