SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Georgia Ports Authority unveiled their new mobile command center on Thursday that will ensure port operations can continue in case of a natural disaster.

The 53-foot command center is self contained and will allow the ports to manage its entire operation remotely.  The unit features 11 work station and three port police dispatch stations.

Georgia Ports Authority Executive Director Curtis Foltz explained why the Georgia Ports Authority chose to make this $1.5 million investment.

"Our ports have become so dynamic, we couldn't survive without the technology that we use today, and this is an important piece to ensure that in the future. Should there be a disruption in our services here at the ports in terms of technology and systems, this ensures that we have the redundancy in place and the back up to take care of our business going forward," Foltz said.

The mobile command center is also equipped to ensure data is safe.
