New BCSO unit nets nearly 100 arrests

BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -

A new enforcement unit launched recently by the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office has resulted in nearly 100 arrests.

On May 27, Sheriff Lynn Anderson authorized the creation of the new STEP division, which targets areas that specifically need more patrols.

As of July 4, the STEP unit made nearly 100 arrests, 29 of which were felony offenses and 43 were drug-related, according to the sheriff's office. Unit members have contacted 74 residents and performed 64 business checks.

The STEP unit's mission: perform proactive patrols of areas including Portal, Clito, Nevils, Eldora based on citizens' complaints and crime data; contact residents, businesses and schools in the area being worked that day; back up deputies during high-call volume times.

To have STEP address a specific complaint in a Bulloch County area, contact STEP Sgt. Jason Kearney at 912.764.1771 or submit a tip via email at tips@bullochsheriff.com
