Army Corps holds change of command ceremony

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Savannah District Army Corps of Engineers has a new commander.

Col. Thomas Tickner assumed command of the corps replacing Col. Jeffery Hall. Hall has been in the position since 2010.

Tickner said he and his family are excited to be in Savannah - especially during this exciting time for the ports - and following through on the commitments the district has made.

"[There are] lots of environmental commitments - the state of South Carolina and Georgia, and the environmental groups and the sister agencies. The district has made some significant commitments, and we look forward to implementing those and making this a model project for the nation and the world," Tickner said.

Tickner said he also looks forward to getting to know the district as well as the regional stakeholders.
