Community rallies against sexual predators

Posted: Updated:

A Guyton community rallies together against sexual predators after a man was arrested and charged on child pornography charges. Effingham County Sheriff's Office is reaching out to parents and children about how they can protect themselves.

"There's always going to be people in your neighborhoods that may not be good people," explained Sheriff Spokesman David Ehsanipoor.

Children are still out of school for the summer in one Guyton neighborhood but they still have lessons to learn from Effingham County deputies.

"If you get gut a feeling that something is kind of weird with somebody, then you should go tell somebody," said Ehsanipoor.

Concerned parents called for a community meeting after a new neighbor was arrested last Thursday on child pornography charges.

"My children play out here and you know I don't always have my eye on them but I know where they are," said Katie Cribbs.

Ronald Mullins only lived in Guyton for two weeks before investigators said they tracked his computer, charging him with sexual exploitation of children and possession of child pornography.

Shocking news that hits close to home for neighbors; but after parents took preventative measures by calling a meeting, many children told WTOC they are prepared.

"[I learned] that if I see somebody that I don't feel right about, I should go and tell somebody," said Adam Daugherty.

A community coming together not only for their children but also to show appreciation for local law enforcement.

"We just wanted to let the police department know that we stood behind them and that we weren't going to stand for this in our neighborhood," said Judd Martins.
