SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Hundreds of police chiefs from across Georgia gathered on Monday morning for their annual Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police Summer Training Conference.

The conference is a time where law enforcement can learn about several new technologies, new strategies, and the big issues facing police today. They also have time to discuss ideas and suggestions with other municipalities.

U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston spoke on a number of different topics including how pending legislation could impact funding.

"I think police chiefs have done a great job of bringing the crime rate down across the nation. Yet, there are resource issues we have to deal with. The federal government will not be able to provide all of the grants that we used to be able to. So, many of the funding will need to be done locally, which is how it originally was when it started."

Savannah will host the police chiefs' conference over the next few days.
