The Jasper County School District is offering a new app to help children learn to read.
The app, which is called Reading Champ, is part of a trial program. It allows students to play games to learn sounds and letters with a virtual puppy. The goal is to see if children enjoy it and want to continue working with it.
The school district is seeking about 24 children who are entering kindergarten or first grade to participate in this trial program.
The tester's parents will need an iPhone4, 4s or 5. The trial program will tentatively begin within the next week lasting around six weeks.
Participation would require working with the trial program at least three times a week but five times is encouraged, working for ten minutes as a minimum per day with 20 minutes being the preferred time spent on the app.
To participate in the trial program, call Dr. LaToya Thomas-Dixon, director of Elementary Education, at 843.717.1152 or 843.717.1120.
