Crews began the demolition of an historic school building in Savannah.
Alfred Ely Beach High School was one of the nation's first public high schools for African-Americans and is one of the oldest public high schools located in Savannah.
A demolition ceremony was held at 10 a.m. at old Beach High School facility at 3001 Hopkins Street.
The new Beach High School is ready to welcome students for the start of the 2013-14 school year. A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for the new school at 10 a.m. Aug. 8.
