Man accused of fatally shooting cousin appears in court

A man accused of fatally shooting his cousin was denied bond on Wednesday.

George Perry, 23, made his first appearance in court. Effingham County Sheriff's deputies say he shot and killed his cousin Christopher Williams, 19, after the two got into argument. It happened shortly after 8 p.m. on Nixon Chapel Road in Springfield.

The sheriff's office said Perry turned himself in a short time later. He is charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and battery. A Superior Court date has not yet been set.

An autopsy is being performed Wednesday at the GBI Crime Lab. The shooting remains under investigation.
