City Council members tour SCAD's buildings around Savannah.
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
Officials with the city of Savannah are getting a firsthand look at a new building for the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Savannah City Council members toured one of the newest campus buildings on Montgomery and 52nd Streets and other buildings.
The college has been part of the city for decades and continues to restore old buildings around the city and bring a diverse population.
"It is a beacon to bring people in - people who may not normally come to what was supposedly a sleepy old southern city. Well, it's not a sleepy old southern city, and the people who are here prove that. People come for our history - and they stay for our future," said Alderman Tom Bordeaux.
SCAD has more than 11,000 students - from all 50 states and 100 countries around the world.
