Lightning, downed tree cause power outages Savannah-Chatham Metro Police have closed LaRoche Avenue between Norwood Avenue and Wylly Island Road until workers can remove a large tree that fell across power lines.
Damage to a second power pole in the area will cause the road to be closed until as late as midnight, according to police.
Georgia Power Company and Savannah Trees and Parks Department units have been dispatched. Drivers are being asked to seek other routes.
The fallen tree has resulted in an estimated 800 customers in the Norwood Avenue area who are without power due to a downed tree across the road and power lines.
There are about 100 customers without power in the area of Skidaway Road and Victory Drive due to a lightning strike.
