Service held to honor Savannah's role in WWII

Posted: Updated:

A World War II remebrance ceremony was held Saturday by veterans and members of the George Gannam American Legion Post 184.

The group gathered to honor the ship yard that was in Savannah during the war and the men that ran it, producing more than 88 ships. The ships created in Savannah served as a vital role in assisting the Allied forces' victory of World War II, used to transport troops and supplies to England.

The service stood as a reminder of the sacrifices that were made during WWII and the tenacity shown in Savannah to create ships that would eventually help win the war.
