SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Savannah NAACP is working to find ways to keep people out of jail in Georgia.

Members held a panel discussion Sunday along with state representatives and other local officials to talk about the current state of the prison system in our area.

State Senator Lester Jackson (D - Chatham County) took part in the event held at the Thankful Missionary Baptist Church. He is hopeful people will take steps to keep others out of jail.

"I think this is a tremendous workshop. I think the answer is not left today, the answer is tomorrow. We need to continue to work on our juvenile justice system, we need to continue working on our prison system, we need to find solutions to help people stay out of prisons." said Jackson.

Some of the topics discussed were saving homes on foreclosure, educating youth in the area, and helping put people on the right path.
