SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

If you're looking to sell your home, now could be a great time. U.S. home prices soared 12.2 percent in May, the biggest yearly jump since March 2006.

The latest numbers from Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller 20-city Home Price Index show prices increased in all 20 cities.

"The housing market is making a substantial recovery," Celia Dunn, broker/owner of Celia Dunn Sotheby's International Realty said.

Dunn has been in the business for more than 30  years and said prices may never be what they were before the housing bubble burst, but there's still plenty to be optimistic about.

"Savannah's been very lucky, and we've seen the market here picking up."

Dunn offered three key pieces of advice to those considering putting their home on the market.

First, spruce things up and give your house curb appeal.

Next, hire the right person for the job.

"Go to a realtor that is trustworthy and knowledgeable, and who will be very straightforward with what they tell you."

Lastly, and arguably most importantly, start off at the right price. Dunn said that research shows if you price it right to begin with, and stick to that price, you'll get more than you would if you started out too high and had to come down.
