Deputies investigate homicide in Pritchardville


A man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the death of a Pritchardville woman.

Beaufort County sheriff's deputies responded at 8:10 a.m. to a home on Bearfoot Alley on a report of a possible homicide.   

The body of Melony Lowther was discovered by her daughter in Lowther's home. The cause of death appears to be blunt force trauma to her head with a metal object, according to the BCSO. 

The scene was secured and investigators began their investigation.  

Within hours a suspect was identified and arrested. 

Walter William Glass, 41, who was living in a camper in the Stoney Crest Campground and an acquaintance of Lowther's was arrested, according to the BCSO. 

He is charged with murder, armed robbery and burglary. He is being detained at the Beaufort County Detention Center.

Property belonging to  Lowther and the suspected weapon were found in a search of Glass' residence, according to the sheriff's office.

Lowther's body has been sent to the Medical University of South Carolina for an autopsy. The investigation is continues.
