SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah Fire and Emergency Services held Mini Academy for members of the Chatham County Youth Commission.

The students, from Chatham County public and private high schools, got to interact with Savannah firefighters for an inside look into fire operations.

The experience enables the department to expose the students to career opportunities available in the fire service.

"The goal is to give our kids something positive. So much is said about kids being bad kids and I think - stay out of trouble and do the things that you need to do," said Charles Middleton, fire chief of SFES.

The grand finale for the Mini Academy was when the group got to dress out in turn out and scuba gear.
