Fallen Fort Stewart soldier returns to Hinesville

HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

A Fort Stewart soldier who paid the ultimate price is coming home to rest on Friday. Sgt. Stefan Smith, a Vanguard Brigade Marne soldier died last Tuesday after an attack using an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan.

Police, soldiers, and area motorcycle riders made of up of veterans and patriots helped to transport the body of Smith on Friday morning. The motorcade started at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah and traveled to Hinesville.

A visitation is set for 5 p.m. Saturday at the Carter Funeral Home in Hinesville. The funeral service Sunday is private.

Smith was just 24 years old. He is survived by his wife Kristi, a Hinesville native and his three small children.
