Flooding may change color of Lowcountry drinking water

Posted: Updated:
BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

Some customers in Beaufort and Jasper counties might notice their tap water may look a little different.

The Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority said customers may notice a brown or tan discoloration in their tap water for the next several weeks.

The discoloration is due to heavy rains that recently flooded the Savannah River and areas that are usually dry were also flooded, according to the BJWSA.

Customers may also notice a musty taste to the water. Despite the changes - the water and sewer authority say the water is still safe to drink and use as normal.
