SC sales tax break boosts business for retailers

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

Shoppers at the Tanger Outlets in Bluffton took advantage of the sales tax break, which continues through Sunday. 

Shoppers who bring a non-perishable food item to donate at the deepwell booths can get a 20 percent off discount booklet at the outlet center. 

The sales tax holiday has an economic impact as well. 

Friday is just the first day of the three-day sales tax holiday. The stores were already packed. Shoppers can saves the state's 6 percent sales tax on items like clothing, shoes, school supplies, computers and printers. 

This weekend brings in extra business while giving consumers a break. 

"Well, this is a big weekend each year. Everyone's headed back to school so they seem to do it on tax-free. We're already an outlet center . We're already great value, but you add the tax-free to that and you save even more," said LaDonna Shamlou, general manager at the Tanger Outlets in Bluffton.
