BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a double shooting after a husband and wife were found shot in their own home.

The couple was found when authorities conducted a welfare check at their Sun City home at General Hardee Way.

When they arrived, they found 85-year-old Robert Jacobsen dead with a handgun nearby. His gunshot wound appears to be self inflicted, according to the BCSO. Deputies said his wife was also shot and survived. They are not releasing her first name.

She was taken to Coastal Carolina Hospital, but later transferred to Memorial University Medical Center. Her condition has not been disclosed.

In what is known as a quiet and peaceful neighborhood, this incident comes as an absolute shock to the community.

"I can't believe that happened, not in Sun City. Wow," said Anthony Cohen, of Bluffton.

Investigators said they are still collecting evidence to determine who shot Jacobsen's wife.  However, they have not said if they are looking for a suspect.
