A mobile home was destroyed by fire overnight Effingham County.

Springfield and Guyton fire crews responded to the blaze on Church Road off of Hwy 21 in northern Springfield around 4 a.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, they found a mobile home completely engulfed in flames. The home is in a non-hydrant area so water had to be transported to the scene by tanker trucks.

"It is scary to wake up at that time of morning and see that fire. We know that nobody lives there so that makes you wonder," said Carolyn Jackson, who lives next door.

The fire is out and firefighters remained on scene to monitor hot spots for several hours and ensured the fire didn't reignite

"It was very visible; enough to know that it was a fire. It was no skimpy thing. It was good size flames," Jackson said.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters said they believe the mobile home was vacant. However, that has yet to be confirmed.

"Everybody in this area is family. We are all sisters and brothers. It is a very quiet area," said Jackson.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
