SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A Savannah businessman announces his candidacy for the Georgia General Assembly.

Martin Sullivan launched his campaign Thursday morning at Lake Mayer. He's running for the State House District 166, a seat that is currently held by state Rep. Ben Watson, who is running for the Georgia Senate.

If Sullivan is elected he will one of the youngest members of the legislature at age 27.

"I want to get out there and I want to continue reducing the unemployment rate for Georgia. It's 8 percent for everybody - 16 percent under the age of 30 and that's inexcusable. The average age of the legislature, I'm not exactly sure, but it's not anywhere near my age; and my generation deserves to have a voice out there fighting," Sullivan said.

He has a year to campaign. The election is not until next summer.
