CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Nikki Haley is honoring the departing president of the Medical University of South Carolina with his own personal day.

Haley issued a proclamation Friday declaring it "Dr. Raymond S. Greenberg Day."

Greenberg announced July 10 he's leaving MUSC after 13 years as president to become executive vice chancellor for health affairs in the University of Texas System. He leaves at the end of this month.

The proclamation recognizes that during Greenberg's tenure, a new medical center and other projects added more than 1 million square feet of space to the MUSC campus in downtown Charleston. The Hollings Cancer Center was also recognized by the National Cancer Institute.

The proclamation also praises Greenberg for helping create Health Sciences South Carolina, a partnership involving the state's research universities and teaching hospitals.
