SPRINGFIELD, GA (WTOC) -

One of two people charged in the brutal death of a Wilmington Island man pleaded guilty and was sentenced in an Effingham County courtroom.

Investigators said on Tuesday they believe Charlie Ray was killed late on Jan. 1 or early on Jan. 2, before he was reported missing.

Kevin Lambert pleaded guilty to hindering the apprehension of a punishable criminal. The judge sentenced him to five years probation and gave him credit for time served.

Lambert has been in the Effingham County Jail since January.  He was also ordered not to return to the Ogeechee Circuit area.

Lambert is the brother of Kimberly Moretz. She was married to Chad Moretz, who is charged with the slaying of killed Charlie Ray.

Kim Moretz is scheduled to face a judge in late September.
