Parker Liggett, a rising 10th-grader at Hilton Head High School, is on a mission.
"I'm working on my Eagle Scout project right now at Hilton Head Island Elementary School. I'm building a walking trail for their students to use, and their walking club, and for physical fitness," he said.
Hilton Head Island International Baccalaureate Elementary Principal Jill McAden said the school received a $1,000 reward from the state because of health improvements the school made, which made it possible for the school to have Liggett build this half-mile walking trail.
"He wanted to give back to the community and to his former school, and it's impressive," said Dianna Magman, of Hilton Head Island International Baccalaureate Elementary. "We're very proud of him."
Liggett had helped from five of the other scouts from his troop.
"Without them I couldn't have done any of this," said Liggett. "[It's] 200 man hours worth of work."
