Bond has been set for a Rincon woman charged in connection with her toddler's beating.

On Thursday, a judge denied bond for Robert Edwards, 24, who is charged with aggravated assault, first-degree cruelty to children, second-degree cruelty to children, battery, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and terroristic threats after threatening to go to deputies' homes to kill them.

Bond was set for the toddler's mother Sabrina Saunders, 21, at $36,000. she is charged with charged with cruelty to children, false statements and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

The charges stem from a report that Edwards beat her 2-year-old daughter while in a bathtub, according to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office. The toddler is going to be OK, but officials say it is too early to tell if this was an isolated incident or whether she has been abused before.
