GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

Red Cross Disaster Action teams prepared for a busy night on Friday, as storms rolled through the Chatham County area.

Red Cross volunteers are always ready to respond to disasters such as flooding, fires, lightning strikes or any other type of disaster 24/7. The three member team got called to two fires and provided emergency assistance to ten adults and five children, the youngest being a one-year-old.

An apartment complex fire on Kessler Drive in Garden City did a major damage to four apartment units after one of the buildings was struck by lightning. For more information on this fire that we covered yesterday on The News head to: http://bit.ly/17y60lv

The other fire happened in Pooler and was to a single family residence that also suffered major damage.

All victims of these fires were provided funds for emergency shelter through the weekend, food for a week and clothing. More Red Cross assistance may be necessary after the weekend to make sure the families have been able to secure housing. Red Cross officials will do a follow up survey on Monday to make that determination.
