Hardeeville woman killed in crash on Deerfield Rd.

A Hardeeville woman was killed after her vehicle struck a utility pole early Sunday morning.

The accident happened just after 1 a.m. on Deerfield Road in Jasper County.

The Jasper County Coroner identified the driver as Nancy Chavez, 20, of Hardeeville.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Chavez and a passenger were traveling south on Highway 321 when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole.

Officials say both Chavez and the passenger were ejected from the vehicle where Chavez was pronounced dead on the scene.  

The passenger, who has not been identified, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah with unknown injuries.

Police say Chavez and the passenger were not wearing seatbelts.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol are still investigating this accident.
