GOHS holds awards ceremony

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Governor's Office of Highway Safety held an awards ceremony on Tuesday. 

South Georgia Bureau Chief Dal Cannady won statewide honors for excellence in television coverage of officers and activities related to highway safety. Among those honored Bonnie Brantley with Safe Kids Toombs County; Ret. Cap. Luther Hires, of Jesup, was recognized as coordinator of the Coastal Area Traffic Enforcement Network and for voluntarily conducting rollover simulator programs at high schools.  

Sfc. Robert Balkcom, post commander Hinesville, was recognized for his current and past service with Georgia State Patrol.  

"We're just so pleased to say, in a tangible way, thank you. These are people who give of themselves to make sure that people in this state are safe on the roads," said GOHS Director Harris Blackwood. 

WTOC's Sonny Dixon served as emcee of the awards event.
