Hampton Fire to host 5K race to help two of their own

HAMPTON CO., SC (WTOC) -

The City of Hampton Fire Department is hosting a 5K race for two of its own, and they need the public's support to finish strong.

Firefighters Catlin Schroyer and Jordan Eaddy are battling serious medical issues. The fire department is hosting its first  "Hampton Hometown Heroes" race to support them.

The team signed up its 100th participant this morning, but they are still looking to add more. If 125 people register one firefighter will run the race in full gear.

"We've covered the cost of the race through sponsorship in the community so everything that we make off of entries goes right back to those two boys to pay their medical bills, which is a wonderful thing." said Alex Murray, firefighter.

The race will start 8am on Saturday at the Hampton City Fire Station.  Registration is $25 dollars.
