DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, FL -

A sentencing date has been scheduled for a Walton County, FL, man convicted of the 2011 murder of a Toombs County teenage girl.

Steven Cozzie was convicted in the death of Courtney Wilkes, of Lyons, while she was vacationing with her family in Florida.

In June, the jury recommended he be sentenced to the death penalty.

His sentencing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 17.

State prosecutors said in court Thursday that they had no further evidence to present. The defense said they had no additional witnesses, but did have new evidence.

State prosecutors said the evidence, which was transcripts of a conversation, is testimonial hearsay and they wouldn't have had a fair opportunity to rebut. The state said that since the evidence is being admitted, they're bringing in new evidence.

Cozzie chose to not testify at Thursday's hearing.
