'Savannah' hits the silver screen

A brand new movie titled after the city of Savannah is hitting theater screens across the country, and also here right here in the hostess city.

The red carpet film premiere for the movie "Savannah", which was filmed here a year and a half ago, was at Victory Square Stadium theaters on Friday.

Set in the post-civil war era, the film is the true story of the legendary Ward Allen, an aristocrat turned market hunter. In the movie Ward fights to preserve his cherished way of life on the Savannah river.

"What I think is great for the city of Savannah is to have a film that has just not been filmed here but actually is about the city. This is the city's history also because most of the filmmakers are from here. I was living here at the time my husband and I wrote the screenplay and filmed it. We were able to get inside the homes and parts of the city and river that people from the outside wouldn't necessarily know about or have access to." said Annette Haywood-Carter, Director & Co-Writer.
