Candlelight vigil held for Garden City woman killed in crash

GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

Family and friends came together Friday evening to remember 39-year-old Carmen Rivers. They lit candles in memory of the Garden City woman who died last Friday in a crash on Interstate 16 in Bloomingdale.

The car she was in was discovered partially submerged in a water-filled ditch just off of an embankment. Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to get to her and another woman, but sadly it was too late for Rivers.

"It's been really hard because if you look around you, you can see Carmen touched so many peoples lives, and I think we should all take note from Carmen's life and if we do that I think things will be a whole lot better in our neighborhoods." said Lasonna Rivers-Brown, Carmen's sister.

The vigil was held at Westgate Apartments, where Rivers lived.
