ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An early morning fire has destroyed what would have been a new Chapel on MLK street.

Nathaniel Payne, the owner of Martin Luther King Memorial Chapels Funeral Home, says they were in the process of building a new chapel next to the funeral home.

Firefighters say the chapel caught fire around 6 a.m. No one was inside at the time.

The building, which Payne says is a total loss, was going to be 3500 square feet, and be able to seat about 200 people.

Payne estimates the damages to be about $150,000. He says he does plan to rebuild.
