Ga. Power warns of suspicious phone calls

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

More than 70 Georgia Power residential and business customers have reported to the company that they're getting phone calls of threats to get their power turned off unless they pay over the phone, according to Georgia Power.

The caller instructs the customer that they must pay with a Green Dot car or other type of gift card they're told to buy. When the customer provides the card number, the caller and the customer's money are gone.

Anyone who gets such a call can report it to Georgia Power at 888.660.5890 (800-253-1077 en Español), or local police.
