SCMPD reports big increase in homicides this year

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are reporting a big jump in homicides this year.

As of August 17th, the most recent data the department had released, 20 people had been killed this year compared to 9 last year.

That's an increase of 122 percent and it's gotten worse since that statistic was released. 31-year-old Michael Lanier Wilson was shot to death outside Frazier Homes on Monday night marking the 21st homicide of 2013.
