Man charged with South Coast Bank robbery

BRUNSWICK, GA (WTOC) -

Brunswick police say a homeless man has been arrested and charged with the robbery of South Coast Bank. 

Police said Gary Joyner, 52, walked into the bank at 4:40 p.m. Aug. 27 and handed a teller a note demanding cash. No weapon was displayed at the time of the robbery. Joyner took the cash and ran off. 

A deputy from the Glynn County Sheriff's Office recognized Joyner. He was taken into custody from deputies with the Glynn County Sheriff's Office and the Brunswick police at about 6 p.m. at the Citgo gas station on Ga. Hwy 341. 

Police said Joyner was driving a stolen Chevrolet pickup truck from Fernandina Beach, FL, which has been recovered. They said he was also found to be in possession of crack cocaine at the time of his arrest. 

He was charged with bank robbery by intimidation, theft by receiving stolen property and possession of cocaine. The investigation continues.
