Jasper Co. school district requests appeal for failing grade

Posted: Updated:
JASPER CO., SC (WTOC) -

The deadline for South Carolina school districts to request an appeal for the 2013 ESEA grade from the South Carolina Dept. of Education is Thursday.

For two years in a row, the Jasper County School District has received an "F" on the state's pass test. Now, the district is asking the State Department of Education to recalculate their scores.

Jasper County schools say their main concern with the grading process is that the state did not take into account the county school consolidation going from two middle schools to one. Furthermore, they believe that when they factored in the charter school students grades it also brought their overall score down.

Jasper County is 1 of 10 schools out of the state's 82 districts to receive a failing grade and the only school in the Lowcountry to receive an "F." It is also the only district that has filed for an appeal.
