Man shot outside St. Helena Island home

ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office investigators have identified a person of interest in a shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon on St. Helena Island. 

Deputies responded at 3 p.m. Thursday to the area of Saxonville Road. They were flagged down by someone who said the victim was at a home on Ballpark Road. Deputies found a 28-year old man who had several gunshot wounds. 

The man was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital. His condition has not been disclosed. Due to the extent of his injuries, he was only able to provide a few details about the shooting.

Based on evidence and information from witnesses, investigators determined that the shooting occurred outside the home on Saxonville Road, according to the BCSO. It is believed that the man was shot as he got out of his vehicle. He then went to nearby homes to get help and ended up at a home on Ballpark Road.
