BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

A special flag pole celebration and talent show took place Friday at Beaufort County Disabilities and Special Needs.

The ceremony took place after a group from DSN were learning about Flag Day and realized they didn't have a flag pole of their own.

"A group of consumers were learning about Flag Day and the 4th of July. That same group asked why DSN didn't have a flag. Soon a flag pole was donated through the ABLE foundation which also helped raise money to decorate the area around the flag pole with engraved bricks," said Mitzi Wagner, Director of DSN.

Hank Herring, ABLE Foundation, was the Master of Ceremonies. Rev. Ed Cushingberry, the ABLE Foundation Board Chairman, gave the invocation. The raising of the flag was performed by three DSN consumers, and the meaning of patriotism was explained by Scott Marshall, Beaufort County PALS Director and Iraq war veteran.

The celebration ended with everyone singing "America, the Beautiful".

After the flag ceremony performers from DSN, who have been practicing for weeks, showed off their best musical talents, skills, and abilities during a talent show.
