Two residents lost their home to a fire on Friday morning in Ware County. The house and mobile home at 2700 Minnesota Ave., Waycross, Ga. was home to a 67 year old mother and her 48 year old son who is a disabled veteran.

The fire destroyed two seperate structures of the family. The mobile home they were living in at night and also the house in front under construction where they worked during the day. They were in process of making the house in front their permanent home.

Sometime around 10 a.m. a nearby neighbor noticed smoke and fire coming from the home while the family was away. The neighbor called a nearby relative of the family who then called the fire department. The family arrived back to the location of where their home once stood to find the fire department wetting down hot spots. The house and mobile home were totally destroyed along with everything inside. The family has lost everything.

The Red Cross has provided funding for food, lodging and clothing. The family has no insurance and is unsure of how they will proceed with recovery. A Red Cross case worker will contact the family on Monday to assist in a recovery process that will most likely require working with partner agencies in the Waycross area.
