Labor Day holiday to be the highest travel day for Americans since the 2008
Despite rising gas prices, more than 34 million
people will travel more than 50 miles during the three-day weekend, which is up
4.2 percent from last year.
That means more tourism for popular destinations such
as Beaufort. The Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce reports many hotels are
fully booked or near capacity.
"It's busy. Traditionally Labor Day is the last
day before the kids go to school. It's always a lot of people traveling and we
had a lot of walk-ins so it was busy," said Jiten Desai, manager of the
