ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Two firefighters were injured while working an escalator fire at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The fire broke out at a T Concourse escalator Tuesday morning. It produced heavy smoke in the area, which is the train level.

The fire was extinguished. Two firefighters slipped in water used to douse the fire and sustained minor injuries, according to Atlanta Fire. They were not taken to a hospital.

Passengers using the area were rerouted to other concourses. The early morning fire closed the North Terminal security checkpoint.

Because of the fire, lines to get through security were especially long.

Airport officials said they believe the fire may have started from a motor in one of the escalators.

CBS Atlanta News and CBSAtlanta.com will have more information as it becomes available.
