SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

America's Second Harvest of the Coastal Empire Executive Director Mary Jane Crouch said a roof has collapsed at the food bank.

It happened Tuesday morning. An estimated 1 million pounds of perishable food is at risk. Crouch said they have two truckloads of turkeys that must be moved. She said they're trying to move as much food as they can.

"We're probably talking about close to 1 million pounds of food in the freezer. It's a lot of food, and we're trying to salvage as much of it as we possibly can," she said.

She said they're checking the temperature of the food as they bring it out.

"The bottom line is nothing like this has ever happened before," she said.

She said insurance adjusters will be at the site on Wednesday.
