BLOOMINGDALE, GA (WTOC) -

Chief Warrant Officer Dennis Snyder hasn't seen his family for nine months and only hours after his homecoming ceremony at Hunter Army Airfield, he surprised his children at school.

Tori, Alex and Alissa still can't believe their dad surprised them at school. They thought their dad was going to be home in a couple of days but their mom knew otherwise.

"I got with everyone at the school and planned this about a week ago," said Suzanne Snyder.

She came up with a plan to bring their oldest daughter from middle school to the elementary school.

"They were telling me that Alex was sick and that they were bringing me back," said Alissa Synder.

But her younger brother Alex who turned 9 on Monday was not sick at all. He and his other sister were attending an assembly where their dad was going to surprise all three of them.

"I just can't wait to see them and hold them and see them with my own eyes," said Dennis Snyder before the reveal.

All he could think about before the surprise was seeing how much they had grown and wishing his youngest a happy birthday. It's a birthday present his son will never forget.

"I was surprised and I ran and then I cried," said Alex Snyder.

The moment received a standing ovation at Bloomingdale Elementary.

"It was just great for the kids and it was just great for the families," said Principal John King. "It also teaches them because what we do counts more than what we say and so this was a great day."
