Police: False report called in regarding intruder on Lindley Middle School campus

Posted: Updated:

There were some terrifying moments for students and teachers at Lindley Middle School Friday.

"The assistant principal was on the intercom and she said code red, code red there is an intruder in the building," said Nile Kennix, a student at Lindley.

Cobb County police rushed to the scene as teachers locked the doors and students hid.

"Everyone had to run into the next classroom and get under the tables," Kennix said.

Officers armed with assault rifles and handguns searched the school.

"The police came knocking on the door and the teacher said identify yourself, and it was the police and he came in and checked to see if everyone was OK," Kennix said.
Meanwhile panicked parents gathered outside the school waiting and wondered what was going on.

"I started crying and called my daughter because I was afraid that the kids were in danger," said Ermaline Miller.

In the end police said the call was a false alarm. There was not a gunman, no one was armed and no one got hurt. But not everyone knew that right away.

"My friend Jayson was crying because she didn't know if her brother got killed or not," Kennix said.

Police told parents to gather at a nearby church, but many wouldn't leave. Eventually they were allowed to pick up their children.

"With what just happened over in DeKalb County, you just never know. Better safe than sorry. Even though this was a hoax, it is good to see the school and Cobb County Police responded in such a fashion. I mean you just never know," said Michael Kennix.
